Dr. Susan Aigotti is an Assistant Professor of Special Education at Appalachian State University. She earned her Ph.D. in special education from the University of Virginia, with a focus on mathematics interventions for students with disabilities. Prior to joining Appalachian State University, she also completed a postdoctoral fellowship focused on coaching in-service teachers and using AI to support special education teachers and vocabulary instruction. Her current research focuses on enhancing mathematics outcomes for students with learning disabilities and training special educators to implement effective, evidence-based practices in inclusive settings. She is also interested in the collaborative relationship between special and mathematics educators and contributing to the growing body of research that informs the Science of Math. Before her academic career, she taught in public elementary and middle schools in Virginia, working extensively with students with diverse learning needs.
