Chanel Jones

Chanel Jones is the 2025 Burroughs Wellcome Fund Piedmont-Triad Regional Teacher of the Year and a sixth-grade Social Studies and Science teacher at Broadview Middle School in Burlington, NC. Chanel holds an NC Teacher Certification in Middle Grades Social Studies, is SIOP Certified, and is currently pursuing National Board Certification in Early Adolescence Social Studies/History.

Beyond her classroom, Chanel leads initiatives that support the whole child and strengthen community ties. She created the Fresh Start Laundry Initiative, which provides students with access to clean clothes, and the Cozy Kitchen, which supplies food for students to take home when they are in need. She also serves on the Governor’s Teacher Advisory Council, is an ABSS Blended Learning Lead Teacher, and mentors beginning teachers while facilitating professional development across her district and state.

A proud graduate of UNC-Greensboro (BA in Sociology, Minor in Public Health Education) and East Carolina University (Post-Baccalaureate Teacher Certification), Chanel believes deeply in the power of creativity, restorative practices, and partnerships to expand opportunities for students.

Chanel resides in Gibsonville, NC, where she enjoys painting, serving as an art assistant to a Durham, NC artist, and spending time with her family, friends, and church community.
