The Public School Forum of North Carolina seeks a Public Schools Storytelling Fellow to create powerful multimedia content to share stories of how students, educators, families and communities are shaping, leading and learning in thriving public schools across North Carolina. This position will report to the Senior Director of Strategy, Outreach and Impact and will work closely with external Forum partners.
The ideal candidate for this full-time Fellowship will have a passion for storytelling, strong skills in organizing people and content, a commitment to public education, proficient writing skills, and experience using various social media platforms. The person in this role should have an interest in working with diverse communities, curiosity and empathy, and an equity-centered approach to storytelling.
The role will include frequent travel (approximately twice a month, typically day trips or one night trips) within North Carolina to visit schools and communities. The preferred start date for this position is mid-September.
Primary Job Responsibilities:
- Help strategize and implement communications efforts for uplifting public schools across the state
- Coordinate directly with partners and staff in schools to help capture and share their stories
- Support efforts to strengthen communications processes, organize and maintain information and track/measure progress towards goals
- Create content (articles, social media posts, multimedia projects) to amplify local public schools
Qualifications:
- Effective writing skills; ability to write well and produce written products that are accessible and beneficial to a variety of audiences
- Familiarity with social media platforms and social media strategy
- Basic video editing capabilities
- Proficiency with Canva, Google Drive and social media scheduling platforms
- Excellent project management and organizational skills; self-starter; exceptional attention to detail.
- Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills; ability to work well with diverse groups.
- Commitment to ensuring educational equity, access, and opportunity for every child in North Carolina.
- Preferred but not required: Experience directly in community schools and/or public schools that aspire to position public schools as hubs of community resources with students, family and educators as leaders driving the vision for their school.
Compensation and Benefits:
This is a full-time position with a 12-month contract (with the possibility to extend, depending on grant funding). The salary for this position is $65,000.
