The Public School Forum of NC is seeking a flexible, part-time or full-time (80-100% full- time equivalent) Development Coordinator to support the development and fundraising initiatives at the Forum. This position will report to the Director of Development. The Forum seeks a passionate and driven team player with a deep commitment to educational equity & opportunity, and public education. Organization and Background
Founded in 1986, the Public School Forum of North Carolina has served as an indispensable and nonpartisan champion for better schools. For more than 35 years, the Forum has worked to advance equitable educational opportunity through research, policy work, programs, advocacy, and continuing education for educators and policymakers. We are a nonprofit partnership of leaders from business, education, and government that makes significant contributions to K-12 public education in North Carolina. In addition to research and analysis in the public policy arena, the Forum runs multiple centers, including the Dudley Flood Center for Educational Equity and Opportunity (Flood Center), the NC Center for Afterschool Programs (NC CAP), and the NC Center for Resilience & Learning.
Job Summary
The Development Coordinator reports to the Director of Development, and works closely with Forum staff to coordinate individual, foundation, corporate, and government giving as well as campaign fundraising and special events. The Development Coordinator plays a central role in gift tracking, donors stewardship, and grant coordination.
Donor and Foundation Relations/Development Support
- Alongside the Director of Development, track and research potential sponsors and solicit sponsorships.
- Coordinate the annual appeal, impact report, and holiday card mailings.
Gift and Grants Administration
- Enter all gifts into the database and send acknowledgement emails/letters per the stewardship plan.
- Work with finance to ensure accuracy between the finance and gifts systems as well as fund receipts.
- Track current, upcoming, and pending grants and reports including timelines, shared documents for proposal coordination and staff written contributions to meet all deadlines.
- Submit final grant applications via online portals.
Database Management
- Continually evaluate infrastructure to improve fundraising operations; explore new tools within the database to improve efficiency and accuracy.
- Keep current and potential funder database records up to date.
- Maintain current policies and procedures documents related to the Forum’s use of the database.
Other Duties
- Participate in meetings with other Forum coordinators to facilitate the flow of information and cross-departmental efficiency.
- Attend and assist at events hosted by the Public School Forum and its Centers (Dudley Flood Center for Educational Equity & Opportunity, NC Center for Afterschool Program, and the NC Center for Resilience & Learning).
- Stay current on fundraising best practices and trends through professional development opportunities.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree required.
- 2-3 years of working with non-profit organizations; development and fundraising success a plus.
- Experience in a range of fundraising including annual gifts, sponsorships, grants and special events a plus.
- Donor database experience a plus. The Forum uses DonorPerfect, but experience with other databases is helpful.
- Commitment to and enthusiasm for the Forum’s mission to ensure educational equity, access, and opportunity for all students.
- Ability to operate with purpose, in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent organizational skills; self-starter; exceptional attention to details.
- Flexibility, drive, and willingness to work as a team player to meet organizational goals.
- Demonstrated ability to work on several simultaneous tasks and projects.
- Strong writing skills and effective communication skills.
- Computer, web and social media proficiency.
Compensation
This is a part-time or full-time position, with flexibility to work an 80-100% full-time schedule based on a full-time salary range of $48,000-$52,000 depending on education and experience. (If part-time the annual salary will be adjusted based on the agreed upon part-time percentage). Position is located in the Triangle area of North Carolina. Hybrid work arrangement. Occasional travel required. Background check required for employment.
