Moana Johnson is a 5th Grade Educator in Currituck County, North Carolina. Within her school she has taken on mentoring roles with new teachers and student teachers. Prior to teaching in NC, Moana was part of the EL Education community, teaching in West Virginia at a public school dedicated to raising achievement for typically underserved students. Moana’s experience teaching in international schools across the globe has made her a strong advocate for high quality education in lower socioeconomic communities, and determined to navigate cultural barriers commonly found in public school settings. Moana believes in being the best she can be for her students and seeks opportunities for advancement with organizations such as NCCAT. Moana is a proud New Zealand and American dual citizen. She has a Bachelor of Teaching and Learning from Christchurch College of Education. She enjoys going on adventures with her husband, and three children. Moana currently resides in Currituck County, near the beautiful Outer Banks of North Carolina.
