Jovonia Lewis is the founder and executive director of Empowered Parents in Community (EPiC-NC). Her experience and passion for education, empowerment and social justice led her to create EPiC, a Durham-based, parent collective leading initiatives to close the opportunity gap. She is a nationally certified and licensed clinical mental health counselor, community advocate and civil servant. Jovonia served on the Durham Public School’s Board of Education from July 2020 – June 2024. A wife, a mother of 3 precious boys, and native of Williamston, NC, Jovonia calls Durham, NC home where she has committed to “standing in the gap” of opportunity.
