Dr. Casey Holmes currently serves as a Visiting Assistant Professor of Social Studies Education at Wake Forest University. She teaches courses on learning sciences and social studies methods and supervises student teachers during their full-time internships. A proud product of 20 years of public schooling, Casey holds a BA in International Studies and an MAT in Secondary Social Studies Education, both from UNC-Chapel Hill. She taught high school social studies in Wake County Public Schools before completing her doctorate in Teacher Education and Learning Sciences at NC State University, where her research focused on critical citizenship education. Prior to joining the Wake Forest faculty, Casey spent three years in Des Moines, Iowa, as an Assistant Professor of Teaching and Learning at Drake University. She lives in Durham with her husband and pets and is delighted to be back within driving distance of the North Carolina mountains. Casey enjoys hiking, reading, watching women’s soccer, tending to her houseplants, and nurturing her newfound enthusiasm for jigsaw puzzles.
