Tony Stewart is the Assistant Director of the North Carolina Principal Fellows Program, where he supports the preparation and development of aspiring school leaders across the state. A proud N.C. Teaching Fellow, Tony began his career as a high school science teacher in Johnston County Public Schools and went on to serve as an assistant principal, Director of Professional Learning, and principal. Throughout his 25 years in education, his work has centered on developing educators and creating high-quality learning opportunities for students. As principal of a K–8 school in West Palm Beach, Florida, Tony led efforts that improved the school’s academic performance by two letter grades and deepened his commitment to serving students and communities with limited resources. Tony earned a degree in Science Education from East Carolina University, a Master’s in School Administration from N.C. State University, and a Doctorate in Educational Leadership from Gardner-Webb University. Through his work with Principal Fellows, Tony is passionate about preparing highly effective school leaders who are equipped to create meaningful opportunities for every student.
