Beth Cross is currently Assistant Director in the Office of Advanced Learning and Gifted Education at the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction (NCDPI). She works to support districts’ and charter schools’ implementation of Academically and/or Intellectually Gifted programs, and she also leads NCDPI’s efforts for Advanced Placement, International Baccalaureate, and Cambridge International Education programming.
A UNC-Chapel Hill and Meredith College graduate, Beth has served the education community for over 29 years in various roles. Her path has included serving as a middle school teacher and high school volleyball coach, AIG specialist, and district Director of Advanced Academics. Throughout her career, Beth’s passion has been working to meet the diverse needs of all her students, creating lasting relationships along the way. She enjoys working at the state level as an advocate for broadening access to advanced learning opportunities and ensuring that students’ advanced learning needs are met.
Beth and her husband reside in Durham, NC with their goldendoodle. Their daughter and son are NC public school graduates who have gone on to further their academic pursuits, inspiring them every day.
