Angela Rivas has been a public school educator for 12 years as a Spanish high-school teacher. She began her teaching career in Eastern North Carolina, and presently teaches at North Forsyth High School in Winston-Salem. Angela is her school’s world languages departmental leader and Spanish Club advisor. She is also the Teacher Cadet coordinator, a program for high school students who are preparing to enter the field of education as future educators. Angela is currently an Equity Ambassador for Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools, promoting and leading equity initiatives at the local and district level. She is part of the Equity Blueprint Design Team for WSFCS, working with educators and community members to create district-wide equity tools. Angela has a B.A. in History and Intercultural Studies from Olivet Nazarene University and a M.Ed. in Global Studies in Education Policy, Organization and Leadership from University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. This summer, Angela participated as a Fulbright-Hays scholar in Perú. She aspires to work for equity advancement for all underrepresented student groups and advocate for better multilingual education policies, not just locally, but for students worldwide. She is an avid traveler and reader.
