Amanda Thompson

Amanda M. Thompson is a proud first-generation college graduate and a passionate educator with over 21 years of experience in instruction, leadership, and equity advocacy. She currently serves as a Secondary Curriculum Math Specialist in Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools and is the President of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Association of Educators. Amanda is also an active board member of the Black Political Caucus of Charlotte-Mecklenburg, where she advocates for policies that uplift marginalized communities and amplify unheard voices.

Amanda is National Board-Certified in K–12 Special Education and highly qualified in Middle Grades Math. Her professional journey includes mentoring early-career teachers, leading districtwide equity initiatives, and facilitating high-impact professional development at both the state and national levels. She has served on numerous leadership committees, including the CMS District Equity Committee and NCAE’s Human and Civil Rights Commission.

Beyond the classroom, Amanda has been recognized with numerous awards for her community service and public policy advocacy, including the NCBW-QCMC Candace Award and the CIAA Food Lion Outstanding Education Award. Her mission is rooted in building capacity, empowering others, and creating spaces where everyone belongs.

Amanda lives by the motto: “I am only as strong as the sister beside me.” She believes deeply in the power of collective action and community-centered leadership, often saying, “My life’s work is to impact communities by being a voice for the unseen and unheard—until we all rise together.”
