Alyzia McAlmon joined the Community Schools Partnerships team at Student U-Durham in August 2024 as the Associate Director of Community and Family Engagement. In this role, she supports the statewide strategy that enables Community School Coordinators to foster connections with community partners and galvanize support from parents, caregivers, students, and educators to champion the Community Schools model as a catalyst for change.
Alyzia brings extensive experience in supporting and empowering students and families to be the change they wish to see in their communities. She holds a Master’s degree in Social Work from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice and Political Science from East Carolina University.
She is also no stranger to Student U—having joined as a student in the inaugural cohort in 2008, and formally serving on the executive board (2020-2025), she now comes full circle in advancing the organization’s mission to create a more just and equitable education system.
