AJ Gunter is a science teacher at the Wilson Academy of Applied Technology with Wilson County Schools. He attended North Carolina State University, where he majored in Biology and Science Education and served as a substitute teacher for three school districts. AJ currently serves on the North Carolina Teaching Fellow Advisory Board as a current North Carolina Teaching Fellow. He is a native of Wilson, NC, and returned home to give back to the school system that shaped his passion for public school education.
As a member of First Presbyterian Church, a volunteer for the Wilson Education Partnership, and an alumnus of the Wilson Leadership Institute, AJ has a heart for service and for making a difference in his community. AJ is a champion for our public schools and wants to help our state become more competitive by investing in early childhood education, increasing teacher pay, and modernizing 21st-century school facilities. To ensure all students in North Carolina receive a rigorous education, he believes we need to recruit and retain strong, highly effective teachers and principals to fill our education pipeline.
