SUMMARY:Jay Robinson Education Leadership Award Gala
DESCRIPTION:The Public School Forum’s Education Leadership Award was created and named in honor of Dr. Jay Robinson in 2000 to recognize exemplary leaders who have made outstanding contributions to public education. Dr. Jay Robinson was one of our state’s most distinguished education leaders.  His career spanned 50 years\, beginning as a math teacher and basketball coach in Cabarrus County\, becoming a school principal and later superintendent of schools first in Cabarrus and then Charlotte-Mecklenburg school systems.  He served as vice president for public affairs and special projects for the University of North Carolina system and chaired the State Board of Education.  He was also the first president of the Public School Forum and served as an Emeritus Member of the Board until his death in April 2000. \n\nThis year\, Forum of North Carolina will honor  Mebane Rash and Tom Oxholm at the 2025 Jay Robinson Education Leadership Award Gala on Thursday\, May 1 at the Angus Barn Pavilion in Raleigh. This year’s gala marks the beginning of the Public School Forum’s 40th Anniversary Year with this important event celebrating local public schools in our state and recognizing leaders and organizations who have made outstanding contributions to public education. \nBoth of this year’s honorees were selected for their unwavering commitment to advocating for public school students in North Carolina within their respective fields. Rash is the founder\, CEO and editor-in-chief of EducationNC (EdNC)\, which has provided in-depth reporting on education topics relevant to readers in North Carolina since its founding in 2015. Tom Oxholm has long been a proponent of and activator for bridging the business and education communities and has continuously served as a highly active member of education and public school organization and efforts. \n  \n2025 Ticket Sales are now closed.

SUMMARY:Jay Robinson Education Leadership Award & Gala
DESCRIPTION:The Public School Forum of North Carolina is proud to announce that we will be honoring the Z. Smith Reynolds Foundation at our annual Jay Robinson Education Leadership Award Gala on Thursday\, May 4th at the Angus Barn Pavilion in Raleigh.  This is always such a special event to both celebrate public education in our state and recognize leaders/organizations who have made outstanding contributions to public education. \n\n\n \nThe Z. Smith Reynolds Foundation (ZSR) is a statewide\, private\, family foundation that has been a catalyst for positive change in North Carolina for more than 85 years. Since its inception\, ZSR has invested more than $667 million to support the efforts of North Carolinians working to make our state a better place\, including in the area of education.  \n\n\n \nZSR believes that all children in North Carolina should have equitable\, universal access to high-quality early childhood and K-12 public education that develops the full potential of each child. Education is a foundation block of democracy and is essential for the future economic sustainability\, prosperity and ongoing vitality of our state and its communities. ZSR believes that children are best prepared to live\, work and lead in our increasingly diverse state if schools are racially\, ethnically and economically diverse and if schools value the individual experiences and contributions of each student.  \n\n\n \nThroughout the Foundation’s history\, ZSR has supported some of North Carolina’s most important statewide initiatives in education\, including: \n\nSupport for the ongoing Leandro litigation for equitable early childhood and K-12 public school funding\nNumerous programs to bolster the recruitment and retention of teachers\, particularly new teachers and teachers of color\nStart-up grants to help launch the Public School Forum of North Carolina and EdNC\, among numerous other organizations\n\n\n\n \nToday\, ZSR supports efforts that build the public will to support\, strengthen\, and fund North Carolina’s public systems of education\, as well as efforts to advance educational equity.  \n\n\n \nZSR’s mission is to improve the quality of life for all North Carolinians. ZSR’s framework for grantmaking and learning has three strategies: a state-level systemic change strategy; a community-based strategy; and an exploratory\, visionary ideas strategy. ZSR’s support for public education falls under the state-level systemic change strategy. \n  \n \nInterested in being a sponsor?
