
Laura earned her Bachelor of Science from East Carolina University (go Pirates!) in December of 2008. She is completing her National Board certification. She holds a North Carolina K-6 teaching license, as well as a K-12 Reading Certification. Throughout her 14 years of teaching, Laura has taught kindergarten, second, third and fourth grades. As the Craven County District Teacher of the Year, she served on the local Board of Education as an advisor to the Board. She is also a Board member of PIE (Partners in Education) and a leader of the Teacher Advisory Council. As the Regional Teacher of the Year, she serves on the Regional Teacher Leadership Committee working with educators all across the Southeast region.
Laura has received many recognitions throughout her teaching career, including the Delta Kappa Gamma Rising Star Award. Her passion lies in beginning and new teacher support. Laura has developed and led beginning teacher committees at multiple schools. She leads the girls running club at her school, developing healthy emotional, physical and mental habits. Laura presented “Create Next Level Projects Using Digital Tools, AR, LEGO, Apps and More!, at ISTE (International Society for Technology in Education) in June 2023. She loves engaging students in hands-on lessons that integrate Science, Social Studies and ELA.
