I am a seventh generation Haywood County native who resides in Asheville, North Carolina. I am beginning my 26th year in public education, and I currently serve as the Director of Recruitment and Induction for Asheville City Schools. I have served as a classroom teacher, assistant principal, and principal (NC Principal Fellows Class #13). I am a proud graduate of Appalachian State University (undergraduate), Western Carolina University (undergraduate degree and a Masters), & Gardner-Webb University (Doctorate). Last fall, I obtained my CDL, and I have enjoyed supporting our schools by driving a yellow bus and activity bus as needed. In August, I took my daughter Harper to NC State University where she will start her freshman year. I am adjusting to being an empty nester. Currently, I serve as the President of the Children’s Well-Being League, a 100 year old nonprofit that promotes the education and welfare of disadvantaged students in Buncombe County. My hobbies and interests include travel, backpack camping, gardening, cooking, college football, and continuing education classes at our local community college.
