Karen Walker has been in education for over 20 years in NC. She earned both her undergraduate and graduate degrees from Appalachian State University. She is a NBCT and is actively involved in supporting candidates and other NBCT teachers, serving on NBCT Board for ASU. She has worked with the NC School Health Training Center for over 25 years, facilitating and writing professional development for adults in youth risk behaviors. Karen taught Middle Grades Math, Science, Language Arts, Drivers Education, Healthful Living and Computer Competencies before serving as an Instructional Coach for Brunswick County Schools. She has presented at district, regional, and state conferences and continues to do so. She enjoyed mentoring fellow teachers, serving as team, grade, and content chair all the while making learning fun and engaging for students. She served as the district Teacher of the year and helped establish a Teacher Advisory Board while working with the Board of Education to make positive changes. Most recently, Karen has joined Appalachian State University to serve as the Lead Instructional Coach for the NC New Teacher Support Program, serving the beginning teachers in the App State Region. She says she has come full circle and couldn’t think of a better place to call home. Her motto, Make Memories!
