My name is Hannah Forbes and I grew up in Kernersville, NC and am a product of Winston-Salem Forsyth County Public Schools. Growing up, school was not only a place that fed my curiosity, but one that made me feel safe and loved at times when I needed it most. This, combined with the fact I was constantly ‘playing school’ with my younger sister in the garage, speaks to the fact that teaching has always been in my heart. Over the last 5 years I’ve taught middle school math in Durham, gotten my Master of Arts in Teaching from UNC-Chapel Hill, and taught third grade in Chatham County. I recently left teaching to focus on my mental health, but I am passionate about education policy as I believe it is a catalyst for social change. I currently work for an education technology company as a customer support analyst as I figure out my next move- hopefully a transition to policy research and writing. In my free time I enjoy being outside, hanging out with friends and family, reading, and admiring my cat. I also drink way too much coffee, watch way too many True Crime documentaries and I’m one of those people who likes pineapple on their pizza. I am excited to learn and grow with this EPFP cohort!
