Brian Link is the 2022 Burroughs Wellcome Fund North Central Region Teacher of the Year. He is a National Board Certified social studies teacher, early career and clincial educator mentor, and coach to multiple state champion academic teams at East Chapel Hill High School. He is also the director of East’s Social Justice Academy, which was nationally spolighted by NBC Nightly News in 2020.
Brian currently serves on many councils and boards, including the National Constitution Center’s Teacher Advisory Council, the NC Superintendent’s Teacher Advisory Council, and the North Carolina Association of Educators Board of Directors. He is recipient of numerous teaching honors and awards including the: Borchardt Award for Go Global NC’s Austrailia’s Program, Bernadine Sullivan Teaching Chair for Excellence in Teaching High School Social Studies, Public School Foundation’s Excellence in Equity Teaching Award, EU Center for Excellence Brussels Tour Grant, and Blue Ribbon Mentor Association Teacher Who Makes A Difference Award. Chapel Hill Magazine named Brian “Best of Chapel Hill” in it’s Teaching Category, while WCHL/Chapelboro.com has recognized him as a “Hometown Hero” Honoree on four separate occasions.
Brian holds a B.A in History and American Studies from Northwestern University, a J.D. from Stanford Law School, and Master’s of Arts in Teaching from the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill. He is the son of two public school educators, a grateful husband to his wife of eleven years, and father to two dogs and a seven year old who loves her NC public school. He enjoys cheering on the Cubs, traveling to new places, promoting and protecting public education, and being a devoted dance dad!
