
Dr. Ashley Carpenter is an Assistant Professor in the Higher Education Program at Appalachian State University. She is an interdisciplinary scholar and practitioner advancing equity and accessibility through K-12 and Higher Education pipeline programs. Dr. Carpenter’s scholarly investments are in multicultural student development, college access for minoritized students, institutional research, educational history, policy, and law. Previously she worked at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and the University of Massachusetts – Amherst as an assessment director for diversity. Ultimately, Dr. Carpenter’s mission is to pursue innovative, evidence-based practices to broaden participation and success in postsecondary education.
She has earned a Ph.D. in Higher Education Policy from the University of Massachusetts, an M.A. in American Culture Studies from Washington University – St. Louis, and B.As. in Psychology and Sociology for the University of Missouri—Colombia.
